Blood Orange is the recording project of Devonté Hynes (born 1985 in Ilford, East London), a singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer now based in New York City. Working across R&B, soul, funk and leftfield pop, he has built a catalogue of five studio albums - from Coastal Grooves (2011) through to Essex Honey (2025) - while writing and producing for artists ranging from Solange and FKA twigs to Lorde and A$AP Rocky. His 2016 album Freetown Sound drew comparisons to Kendrick Lamar and D'Angelo; his 2018 follow-up Negro Swan explored Black identity and queer experience with equal critical force.
Blood Orange performed at Coachella 2026 on April 10 and 17, playing fan favourites including "Champagne Coast" and "Bad Girls".
Essex Honey, Blood Orange's fifth studio album, was released on 29 August 2025 via Domino/RCA Records to universal critical acclaim.
Blood Orange announced a headline tour across North America, the UK and Europe in support of Essex Honey, including a three-night stand at London's Alexandra Palace Theatre.
"The Field", the first new Blood Orange single in three years, was released on 26 June 2025, featuring Caroline Polachek and Daniel Caesar.
"Champagne Coast" received its first RIAA certification, driven by a viral TikTok resurgence that pushed the 2011 track to gold status in 2024.
