About

Blood Orange is the recording project of Devonté Hynes (born 1985 in Ilford, East London), a singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer now based in New York City. Working across R&B, soul, funk and leftfield pop, he has built a catalogue of five studio albums - from Coastal Grooves (2011) through to Essex Honey (2025) - while writing and producing for artists ranging from Solange and FKA twigs to Lorde and A$AP Rocky. His 2016 album Freetown Sound drew comparisons to Kendrick Lamar and D'Angelo; his 2018 follow-up Negro Swan explored Black identity and queer experience with equal critical force.
