Butcher Brown is a jazz quintet from Richmond, Virginia, founded in 2009, whose music moves freely between jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul, and R&B. The five members - Marcus "Tennishu" Tenney (trumpet/sax/vocals), DJ Harrison (keys), Morgan Burrs (guitar), Andrew Randazzo (bass), and Corey Fonville (drums) - have built a reputation for live shows that blur genre lines with the ease of musicians who have played together for well over a decade. Their 2023 album Solar Music won the 2024 Newlin Music Prize, and their 2025 follow-up Letters from the Atlantic, released on Concord Jazz, expanded their palette further with guests including Nicholas Payton and Yaya Bey.
Butcher Brown and Nicholas Payton announced A Supreme Blue, a reimagining of Miles Davis's Kind of Blue and John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, due July 24, 2026 on Concord Jazz.
