Cara - Irish Music
Folk quartet Cara blends traditional Irish and Scottish music with virtuoso fiddle playing and uilleann pipes - the Irish bagpipe recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
Cara is a multinational Celtic folk band founded in 2003, with members from Germany, Scotland and Ireland - built around the voices of singer-fiddler Gudrun Walther and Scottish singer-pianist Kim Edgar, alongside uilleann piper Simon Pfisterer and guitarist Jürgen Treyz. Twice winners of the Irish Music Awards (Best New Irish Artist 2010, Top Group 2011), they are widely regarded as the leading German export in Irish folk, having toured the USA, Australia and across Europe. Their ninth studio album, "Our Ship Is Ready" (2026), addresses emigration, climate change and loss through a blend of original songs and Celtic tradition.
Irish Music Magazine reviewed Cara's ninth album "Our Ship Is Ready" on Artes Records, calling it 11 tracks of quality Celtic folk spanning Irish, Scottish, Breton and Balkan influences alongside original compositions.
Cara launched the "Our Ship Is Ready" CD Release Tour 2026, with dates across Germany including Blieskastel, Storkow, Ludwigsburg and Karlsruhe, featuring guest percussionist Cormac Byrne.
Cara's official website promoted a new video for the title track "Our Ship Is Ready", the band's ninth studio album addressing emigration, love, loss and climate change.
Simon Pfisterer was officially added to the Na Píobairí Uilleann (Irish uilleann pipes society) online archive of significant contemporary pipers.
Cara released their eighth album "Grounded", recorded during the pandemic years 2020-2021, to enthusiastic reviews; The Living Tradition magazine featured the band on its cover in November 2021.
