Christian Gerhaher (born 24 July 1969 in Straubing, Bavaria) is a German baritone widely regarded as one of the foremost Lied interpreters of his generation. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München - simultaneously completing a medical degree - and refined his craft in masterclasses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Inge Borkh. For over 35 years he has performed alongside pianist Gerold Huber, a partnership the New York Times called 'the world's greatest song partnership'; their recordings of Schubert, Schumann and Brahms on Sony Classical have earned prizes including the Gramophone Award, the Laurence Olivier Award and the Hugo-Wolf-Medaille.
