Demdike Stare is a Manchester-based electronic duo formed in 2009 by DJ Sean Canty and producer Miles Whittaker - two childhood friends from Lancashire with a lifelong obsession with crate digging. Their music draws on industrial, dub techno, dark ambient and library music, built from densely processed samples and occult imagery rooted in the Pendle witch trials. They release primarily on their own DDS imprint (formerly Modern Love), and have scored films for the BFI as well as collaborated with orchestras and visual artists.
