Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara, 5 September 1946 in Zanzibar; died 24 November 1991 in London) was the lead vocalist and pianist of the British rock band Queen, which he co-founded in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. Celebrated for a four-octave vocal range and a theatrical stage presence that redefined what a rock frontman could be, he wrote some of the most enduring songs in rock history - among them 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Somebody to Love' and 'We Are the Champions'. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and remains one of the most influential figures in popular music.
'Bohemian Rhapsody' marked its 50th anniversary with vinyl reissues and a five-part YouTube documentary series from Queen; the reissued single returned to #1 on the UK charts.
