HEDVIG MOLLESTAD TRIO (nor)
Norwegian jazz-rock trio Hedvig Mollestad Trio returns after a four-year hiatus with their new album "Bees In The Bonnet" - hard rock energy meets jazz improvisation at Dresden's Jazzclub Tonne.
Hedvig Mollestad Thomassen (born 4 February 1982 in Ålesund, Norway) is a guitarist, composer, and improviser who trained at the Norwegian Academy of Music. She leads the Hedvig Mollestad Trio - with bassist Ellen Brekken and drummer Ivar Loe Bjørnstad - whose sound fuses electric jazz, hard rock, and free improvisation. Across more than a decade on the Rune Grammofon label, she has built a reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in European jazz-rock, earning the Musicians Prize at Kongsberg Jazz Festival and an Artist in Residence slot at Molde International Jazz Festival in 2023.
Hedvig Mollestad Weejuns released their second album Bitches Blues on Rune Grammofon on 17 April 2026, featuring six instrumental tracks with Ståle Storløkken and Ole Mofjell.
The Hedvig Mollestad Trio released their eighth album Bees in the Bonnet on Rune Grammofon on 9 May 2025.
Bees in the Bonnet was described by reviewers as one of the heaviest albums in the trio's catalogue, with six tracks spanning hard rock, fusion, and free improvisation.
Mollestad served as Artist in Residence at Molde International Jazz Festival in 2023, curating and performing eight concerts over six days.
The Weejuns trio - Mollestad, Ståle Storløkken, and Ole Mofjell - released their debut self-titled album in September 2023 to broad critical acclaim.
