HEDVIG MOLLESTAD TRIO (nor)
Jazzclub Tonne, Dresden, Germany
Seven acclaimed albums in a decade, rapturously received tours across Europe and North America - since 2009, the HEDVIG MOLLESTAD TRIO has shaken up the jazz world in a big way. Mollestad, alongside bassist Ellen Brekken and drummer Ivar Loe Bjørnstad, fuses the raw energy of hard rock with harmonic sophistication - music journalists have coined terms like "Stonerswing", "Doomjazz", and "Jazz Sabbath" to describe the result.
After the album "Ding Dong. You're Dead" (2021), Mollestad gave the trio a four-year break. She was far from idle: she completed five major commissioned works, released two solo albums, co-founded the power-impro trio Weejuns with Ståle Storløkken and Ole Mofjell, served as Artist in Residence at the Moldejazz Festival, and composed new music for the silent film "Limité" (Brazil, 1931).
In 2025, the trio is back with "Bees In The Bonnet": thick guitar tones, massive riffs, thundering drums, and a distorted bass. The blend of tight riff-craft and open improvisation is tighter than ever - and the joy of playing together again comes through clearly in the music.
