Jan Delay (born Jan Philipp Eißfeldt, Hamburg, 25 August 1976) is a German rapper, singer and producer who built his reputation in the 1990s as one third of the pioneering hip-hop group Absolute Beginner (later Beginner), then carved out a solo career that moves freely between reggae, funk, soul and German rap. Albums like Mercedes Dance (2006) - which topped the German charts and went platinum - and Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Soul (2009) made him one of the most distinctive voices in German popular music. He performs live with his band Disko No. 1 and has released five studio albums, most recently Earth, Wind & Feiern (2021).
