About

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer, pianist, and conductor who spent most of his career in Vienna. Working across symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and Lieder, he held classical form and counterpoint as his foundation while giving them a distinctly Romantic voice - a balance that earned him recognition as the leading heir to Beethoven in his own lifetime. His four symphonies, two piano concertos, the Violin Concerto, and Ein deutsches Requiem remain cornerstones of the orchestral and choral repertoire.
