Michael Mayer is a German DJ, producer and co-founder of Cologne's Kompakt label, born in 1971 in the Black Forest. Since the mid-1990s he has been one of the defining figures of European minimal techno and tech-house - both as a selector with over four decades behind the decks and as a label boss whose roster shaped the sound of a generation. He has over 100 remixes to his name, for artists ranging from Depeche Mode to Pet Shop Boys, and also runs the eclectic Imara imprint alongside Kompakt.
A remix EP of tracks from 'The Floor Is Lava', titled 'The Floor Is Lava Remixe' (Speicher 137), was released on Kompakt on 26 September 2025, featuring reworks by Raxon, Dave DK, Priori and Sebastian Mullaert.
Mayer performed a 'The Floor Is Lava' album tour date at Rex Club in Paris on 1 March 2025.
Mayer released his fourth solo album 'The Floor Is Lava' on Kompakt on 1 November 2024 - his first full-length in eight years.
