About

NoMeansNo was a Canadian punk rock band formed in Victoria, British Columbia in 1979 by brothers Rob Wright (bass, vocals) and John Wright (drums, keyboards). Over nearly four decades they released 11 albums, blending hardcore punk with jazz, progressive rock and dark, sardonic lyrics - a sound that proved formative for post-hardcore, math rock and emo. The band retired in 2016 and was inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2015; their 1989 album Wrong won the public vote at the 2021 Polaris Heritage Prize.

    John Wright's post-NoMeansNo project Dead Bob released the 7" single 'Some Bodies / We Are The Humans' on Alternative Tentacles on August 15, 2025.

    Dead Bob announced a North American tour in support of the 'Some Bodies / We Are The Humans' single, with tickets available via deadbob.ca.

    NoMeansNo returned to Alternative Tentacles for distribution, releasing remastered editions of Wrong and the 1987 single 'Dad/Revenge'.

    PM Press published the band's authorized biography, 'NoMeansNo: From Obscurity to Oblivion: An Oral History', written by radio host Jason Lamb.

    NoMeansNo's 1989 album Wrong won the public vote category of the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize at the 2021 Polaris Music Prize.
