Nouvelle Vague
French band Nouvelle Vague performs reinterpretations of classic songs in a contemporary style.
Nouvelle Vague is a French musical collective founded in Paris in 2003 by producers Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux, built around bossa nova and lounge reinterpretations of post-punk and new wave classics. A rotating cast of mostly female vocalists - among them Camille, Mélanie Pain, Phoebe Killdeer and Élodie Frégé - gives each cover its own identity, since singers were deliberately chosen for their unfamiliarity with the originals. The debut album (2004) sold over a million copies worldwide and launched a career spanning six studio records and relentless global touring. Co-founder Olivier Libaux died in September 2021; Marc Collin has continued the project, releasing the 20th-anniversary album "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" in 2024.
Nouvelle Vague released a new single, "Enjoy the Silence", in 2026, continuing the project's run of Depeche Mode covers.
A deluxe edition of the 2024 album "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" was released on May 15, 2025, expanding the original 13-track record to 18 songs.
Nouvelle Vague announced a 2025 worldwide tour celebrating 21 years since their debut album, including two shows at London's Koko venue.
The band released "Should I Stay or Should I Go?", their first studio album in five years, on February 16, 2024, via Kwaidan Records / [PIAS], to mark their 20th anniversary.
Co-founder Olivier Libaux died on September 29, 2021, at age 57; Marc Collin subsequently assumed sole leadership of the project.
