Oliver Tree Nickell (June 29, 1993 - June 14, 2026) was an American singer-songwriter, rapper, and record producer from Santa Cruz, California. Signed to Atlantic Records in 2017, he built a devoted following with his genre-blending sound - mixing pop, rock, and electronic elements - and an instantly recognizable persona: bowl-cut wig, tiny sunglasses, and oversized JNCO jeans. His debut album Ugly Is Beautiful (2020) and international hits like "Life Goes On" and "Miss You" brought him worldwide recognition. He died on June 14, 2026, in a mid-air helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while on tour supporting his fourth album Love You Madly Hate You Badly.
Oliver Tree died on June 14, 2026, when two helicopters collided mid-air over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, killing all six people aboard; he was 32 and on tour supporting his fourth album.
Tributes poured in from across the music industry following Tree's death, with artists including KSI, Robin Schulz, Bebe Rexha, Kid Cudi, Diplo, and Melanie Martinez paying public tribute.
Oliver Tree released his fourth and final studio album, Love You Madly Hate You Badly, independently on April 24, 2026, after departing Atlantic Records; the 17-track record was recorded across seven continents and over 80 countries.
Tree announced "The World's First World Tour" on May 4, 2026, an ambitious run of 70+ shows across 30 countries and all seven continents, which commenced May 30 in Mexico City.
In October 2025, Tree released "Superhero" as the lead single from Love You Madly Hate You Badly, debuting it live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre alongside rapper Logic.
