Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench
Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench – a concert at Salzburg's Rockhouse venue.
Pungent Stench is a death metal band from Vienna, Austria, active since 1988. They built a cult following in the early 1990s with a raw, grotesque style that blended death metal and grindcore with pitch-black humour and shock-value lyrics. Their classic albums "For God Your Soul... For Me Your Flesh" (1990) and "Been Caught Buttering" (1991), both released on Nuclear Blast, remain cornerstones of European extreme metal. After several break-ups and reformations, the band currently operates under guitarist and vocalist Martin Schirenc.
Hammerheart Records released a reissue of the band's 1988 debut demo "Mucous Secretion" on June 20, 2025, including a previously unreleased rehearsal track.
Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench performed a live date in Drachten, Netherlands in February 2025.
The band played a run of US dates in September 2024, including shows in Chicago, Cleveland and New York.
The long-shelved album "Smut Kingdom", recorded during the band's final sessions before the 2007 split, was officially released in April 2018 via Dissonance Productions.
Following legal disputes over the band name after the 2013 reformation, Martin Schirenc renamed the project "Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench" in 2014.
