About

Renft, also known as Klaus Renft Combo, was an East German rock band from Leipzig and one of the most popular groups in the GDR during the 1970s. Their lyrics touched too openly on political realities, and the authorities banned the band in 1975. After German reunification they resumed performing, becoming a symbol of resistance to the GDR's cultural censorship.
