Sub 5

The name sub5 comes from jazz harmony - it refers to a chord - and here it stands for a vocal band offering its audience a broad musical repertoire: favourite songs from jazz, soul and pop alongside refreshed folk tunes, all with the unmistakable sub5 touch.

The group's current programme "Neustart" (New Start) marks a genuine turning point in their history. Until 2024, sub5 toured Germany exclusively as an a cappella act. Since the relaunch, the four-part vocal harmonies are backed by double bass and drums - a format that had no real precedent in the German jazz and vocal scene. The two instrumentalists adapt to each piece, playing with restraint and sensitivity one moment, then with drive and intensity the next.
