"Lebendige Stolpersteine" (Living Stumbling Stones) is a theatre project by Theater und Philharmonie Essen, performed at the Grillo-Theater. The production brings to life the stories of individuals commemorated by Stolpersteine - the small brass memorial plaques embedded in pavements across Europe to honour victims of Nazism.

The Grillo-Theater is the main venue of Theater Essen and one of the oldest and most prestigious theatres in the Ruhr region. The neo-baroque building, inaugurated in 1892, seats around 1,000 spectators and hosts a wide range of dramatic productions, from classical plays to contemporary works. It is named after Friedrich Grillo, a prominent Essen industrialist who helped finance its construction.
