About the venue
The Grillo-Theater is the main venue of Theater Essen and one of the oldest and most prestigious theatres in the Ruhr region. The neo-baroque building, inaugurated in 1892, seats around 1,000 spectators and hosts a wide range of dramatic productions, from classical plays to contemporary works. It is named after Friedrich Grillo, a prominent Essen industrialist who helped finance its construction.
