Debut Marathon I - Piano
20.08 Eight past Eight, VERDO Konzertsaal
Concert with Igor Levit, Markus Becker, Séverine Kim, Robert Neumann, Roman Borisov and Dongping Wang
The evening concert, featuring all six pianists, opens with Robert Neumann performing one of his own compositions. Since 2024, Neumann has also directed the "Cannstatter Klavierfrühling" festival, where he presents international pianists of the new generation. The young "poet at the piano" (Kölner Stadtanzeiger, March 2026) Roman Borisov - who, like Neumann, studies in Berlin under Eldar Nebolsin - plays a selection of Mendelssohn's "Songs Without Words". Award-winning young pianist Séverine Kim, who won the James Mottram International Piano Competition hosted by the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, then bridges the programme from Schubert to Debussy.
The two senior keyboard artists, Igor Levit and Markus Becker, turn to Haydn: Levit plays the Sonata in D major Hob. XVI:51 - a work full of unpredictability and wit - while Becker improvises on Haydn themes. The evening closes with Igor Levit and Dongping Wang performing Mozart for four hands.
