Igor Levit
Igor Levit performs four Beethoven sonatas at the Tauberphilharmonie - from the early op. 2 No. 1 to the Waldstein Sonata.
Igor Levit (born 10 March 1987 in Nizhny Novgorod) is a Russian-German pianist based in Berlin, widely regarded as one of the defining classical artists of his generation. He completed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hannover with the highest scores in the institution's history, and has since built a reputation for intellectually rigorous programming that spans Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, and contemporary composers such as Frederic Rzewski. His complete Beethoven piano sonata cycle (Sony Classical, 2019) debuted at number one in the classical charts, and his Brahms concerto recording with the Vienna Philharmonic and Christian Thielemann won the Opus Klassik 2025 award for Concert Recording of the Year. Beyond the concert hall, Levit is a professor at the Musikhochschule Hannover, co-artistic director of the Heidelberger Frühling festival, and a prominent public voice on political and social issues.
Levit launched his own record label, NO SILENCE, within Sony Music, with the first three albums scheduled for release on 23 October 2026.
The first NO SILENCE release featuring Levit is Beethoven's 'Eroica' Symphony in Liszt's piano arrangement, paired with Schoenberg's 'Ode to Napoleon'.
Levit announced a new complete Beethoven sonata cycle running from October 2026 to June 2028 across New York, London, Vienna, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Levit is scheduled to perform at the Nobel Prize Concert in Stockholm in December 2026 with Sir Antonio Pappano and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
Levit and performance artist Marina Abramović presented a 13-hour performance of Erik Satie's 'Vexations' at London's Southbank Centre.
