Giuseppe Verdi ranks among the most popular opera composers of all time, and "Nabucco" stands alongside "La Traviata", "Rigoletto", "Aida", "Falstaff", and "Othello" as one of his most celebrated works. The famous "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" became Italy's unofficial national anthem during Verdi's lifetime and remains the highlight of every performance. The opera about the Jewish people's struggle for freedom from Babylonian captivity has lost none of its appeal - with stirring mass scenes, magnificent melodies, and brilliant arias, it ranks high on the list of most frequently performed operas.

Verdi composed "Nabucco" at age 28. Following his wife's death, he lived in solitude and melancholy, yet the biblical words of the libretto gave him new inspiration - he completed the opera line by line. The premiere on March 9, 1842, at Milan's La Scala was an extraordinary success and launched Verdi's great years of triumph.

As part of the Venezia Festival Opera Tour 26, the work will be presented at Amphitheater Hanau as an open-air performance. Renowned soloists, a large chorus, and the Venezia Festival Orchestra perform under the direction of Nayden Todorov, conductor of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and current Minister of Culture of Bulgaria. Splendid costumes, an imposing stage design, enchanting lighting, and over one hundred performers bring the dramatic tale of love and power to the stage.
