Die Hausmeister - A Comedy About Heroes with a Measuring Device
Schlosstheater Celle, Germany

Welcome to the caretakers' workshop in Celle Castle. Outside, structures are collapsing, departments are hunting for purpose - and what's left are the new caretakers: unfortunately responsible for almost everything. "Chaos has squatter's rights here. But we have the master key."
Georg Gerzen has a key for everything - except human communication. On the upside, he spots problems before he even enters the room. Max Taiber was assigned to him as an "optimisation measure" after AI "efficiently restructured" the castle. Now the two of them are also supposed to put on theatre - as performers, dramaturgs, and set designers. "Culture is now a cross-cutting task." Then the apprentice arrives. Compulsorily assigned. Whatever he installs sets off an alarm. "I thought that's how it's supposed to go."
DIE HAUSMEISTER is a comedy about defeatism as a survival strategy and the drama of being overwhelmed - a grumbling ode to those who keep every institution stuck in place while believing they are its saviours. Their poetry lives between broken fluorescent tubes and bent life plans. Learned helplessness is their art: give up before you start.
