Marie-Antoinette, or Cake for Everyone! - Peter Jordan
Stadttheater Landesbühne Nord, Wilhelmshaven, Germany
17 €
In the Palace of Versailles, Marie-Antoinette and her husband, King Louis XVI, await their execution - for the past 15 years. While revolution rages in Paris, the two majesties have no choice but to wait patiently: the new government is far too preoccupied with itself and denouncing its own members to concern itself with the fate of the former monarchs.
Unannounced guests constantly burst into the palace, wanting to have a say in everything. Louis would gladly trigger the guillotine himself - but his homemade machine, plagued by construction flaws, produces unexpected casualties. And what does the young Napoleon have to do with all this?
Peter Jordan's (*1967) comedy MARIE-ANTOINETTE, OR CAKE FOR EVERYONE! sheds new light on one of history's most notorious royal couples - bitterly, ironically, and without restraint: a mad blend of screwball comedy, slapstick, and historical drama, with barbs that reach into the present day.
