Tonkünstler-Orchester:

The Tonkünstler-Orchester ranks among Austria's greatest and most important musical ambassadors. It maintains residencies at the Musikverein Wien, Festspielhaus St. Pölten, Grafenegg, Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt, and Baden. The core of its artistic work is the traditional orchestral repertoire from classical through romantic to twentieth-century music. Chief conductor since the 2015-16 season is Yutaka Sado, one of the most significant Japanese conductors of our time. In summer 2025, he will be succeeded by Fabien Gabel, a Frenchman who served as chief conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec in Canada until 2021 and was introduced to the public at a press conference in Vienna in June 2023.

Alternative programming approaches of the Tonkünstler are equally valued by musicians, audiences, and critics. The inclusion of genres such as jazz and world music as part of the "Plugged-In" series has ensured the orchestra a firm place in the pulse of contemporary music for over a decade. Through performances of contemporary compositions, the orchestra demonstrates its commitment to the development of music in our time.
