JMO - I Nia Yelle

To mark their 10th anniversary, Jan Galega Brönnimann, Moussa Cissokho and Omri Hason present their third CD I Nia Yelle - in Mandinka, the language of a West African ethnic group, it means: Open Your Eyes. JMO stands not only for the initials of the three musicians, but also for the three main influences of their music: Jazz - Mandinka - Orient.

The crystalline sound of the kora (a traditional African bridge harp with 22 strings) meets the sonorous, smoky tones of the bass clarinet, carried along by Omri Hason's percussion. Their interplay thrives on beautiful melodies and rhythmic elegance, shifting between quiet, transfigured moments and rhythmically explosive passages. The result is an authentic, contemporary chamber music.

Moussa Cissokho sings, shaped by the cultural heritage of West African griot song, by life today in Africa and Europe - longing, mysterious rivers, and experiences at European borders. He belongs to the 42nd generation of the kora dynasty and griot family Cissokho, which has shaped the tradition of West African music for over 1,000 years.
