Westbeverner ThekenTheater - "Wir erreichen in Kürze 'O du fröhliche'"
Bürgerhaus Telgte, Germany
Christmas Eve morning. On the Eurobahn train from Osnabrück to Münster, a very unlikely group of passengers find themselves sharing a carriage: a stressed-out lawyer who still needs to buy his wife an expensive gift from the upscale jeweller Rüschenbeck, a nurse buzzing with excitement about her blind date with a stranger, a shy student carrying a Christmas tree to his grandmother's small flat, a melancholy conductor who volunteered to work because it's his first Christmas without his late wife, a cheerful Christmas enthusiast heading to her annual Aperol Spritz get-together with friends at the Aasee, and Santa Claus himself, on his way to a lavish party at the Prinzipalmarkt.
None of them will reach their destination. The train grinds to a halt mid-route - a snowstorm makes any further travel impossible. The passengers have no choice but to wait, for however long it takes. Forced together, they start talking, and their stories slowly begin to shift and intertwine. The audience sits right there with them in the stranded train, joins in singing "O du fröhliche", and watches one happy ending after another unfold during an improvised Christmas celebration.
Westbeverner ThekenTheater brings this romantic comedy, written by Katrin Jäger, to the stage as a very special festive show. Directed by Jörg Kracht, who puts it simply: "Laughing and singing along are expressly encouraged!"
