Concert with Igor Levit, Markus Becker and Séverine Kim
The Sommerliche festival opens its first debut day - dedicated to the piano - with Johannes Brahms's "Haydn Variations". Versatile pianists Igor Levit and Markus Becker perform this romantic work, which carries on Haydn's art, as a piano duo. They have also invited young up-and-coming pianists to join them in shaping the day in Hitzacker. After the Brahms, Séverine Kim showcases Haydn's own art of variation, draws a line to Scarlatti's spirited C major Sonata, and demonstrates just how witty études can be. Debussy's Étude No. 1, composed in 1915, stands firmly in the tradition of Czerny's and Chopin's finger exercises while remaining unmistakably its own thing. Séverine Kim completed her studies in South Korea before continuing in Hanover under Bernd Goetzke and Markus Becker; she now teaches at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
