FRANCIS POULENC Sonata for clarinet and piano

Music for clarinet follows its own ideal: brilliant, light, silvery - unless you are Saint-Saëns, who decided to caricature his German-Austrian neighbours in his clarinet sonata. The Parisian workshops of the late 19th and early 20th centuries shaped the sound so profoundly that woodwind music became something distinctly French. Martin Fröst and Roland Pöntinen perform some of its finest classical masterpieces.

NORDIC PARTNERSHIP
Pöntinen "clung to Fröst like a second skin" - so the Wigmore Hall described Martin Fröst and Roland Pöntinen, bound by a decades-long musical partnership. Already at Fröst's early breakthrough in 1991, Pöntinen stood by his side as his piano partner. Fröst, born in 1970 in Uppsala, is today counted among the leading clarinetists of his generation. Pöntinen, born in 1963 in Stockholm, is an internationally sought-after pianist and composer.
