Opening Concert Musiksommer 2026

MDR-Sinfonieorchester under Dennis Russell Davies opens Musiksommer 2026 on Friday, 7 August at 19:30 at Festhalle Ilmenau. The inaugural concert explores forest landscapes through works by Dvořák, Wagner, and Beethoven, including Dvořák's "In der Natur" overture, Wagner's "Waldweben," and Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony. Cellist Carlo Lay performs Dvořák's cello and orchestra pieces. This is the first of nine German dates for the orchestra this summer, with further performances scheduled in Bad Elster, Jena, Köthen, and other cities. Admission is 30 euros.
