The best songs of Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears
A mix of jazz and rock, sharp brass sections, a rock guitar and precise (choral) vocals - these are the hallmarks of Chicahlgo. The repertoire draws from the work of Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, who created a new style in the late 1960s by blending jazz and rock. This music reached the Spessart region, specifically Kahlgrund, where a band called Chicahlgrund set out to bring the festivals and halls of Untermain up to date with this razor-sharp American sound. In 1979, Chicahlgrund - which had achieved cult status in the region - ceased operations.
In 2005, the successor band "Chicahlgo" was founded at the initiative of the Junker brothers, who had also been involved in creating Chicahlgrund. After a pandemic break, the band now presents its repertoire with: Uwe Junker (vocals, bandleader), Helga Dyrfinna and Tine Rast (vocals), Paul Lanzerath and Gebhard Schmitt (trumpet), Stephan Schlett (trombone) and Christian Felke (saxophone). Bassist Thomas Leilich and drummer Stefan Krämer provide the rhythm. Jürgen Rast plays guitar, and Markus Kauffeld is on keyboards.
