The Sound of Music - The Trapp Family's Musical Adventure

For the 20th anniversary of Staufer Festspiele, one of the greatest musicals of all time takes the stage: The Sound of Music.

The world-famous work by Rodgers and Hammerstein has captivated millions for decades - on Broadway stages, in international theatres, and in the legendary film starring Julie Andrews, which won 5 Oscars and ranks among the most beloved films ever made.

In Göppingen, a new festival production is being created, specially developed by artistic director Alexander Warmbrunn, bringing together timeless music, an emotional story, and the distinctive artistic signature of Staufer Festspiele.

A musical full of heart, hope, and musical brilliance
At its centre is Maria, a novice nun whose warmth, curiosity, and love of music forever change the lives of the seven Trapp children - and their stern father, Captain von Trapp.
Against the backdrop of the political upheaval of the 1930s, the musical tells of courage, homeland, loss, and the power of unity.

Timeless melodies such as "Do-Re-Mi", "Edelweiß", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", and "My Favorite Things" have long achieved cult status and rank among the most performed musical hits worldwide. In Göppingen, they resound in an emotional, German-language interpretation.

Staufer Festspiele create a modern, visually rich, and moving new version that combines the charm of the original with the special festival atmosphere. The production follows the international success story of this work - yet interprets it with the regional identity, authenticity, and artistic signature for which Staufer Festspiele has been known for two decades.

This production is not a copy of familiar versions, but an original festival creation: musically lavish, scenically contemporary, and entirely newly developed in every aspect.
