Christian Stöcker - Men Who Burn the World — Kulturzentrum Pumpwerk, Wilhelmshaven

For decades, a small group of the ultra-wealthy and companies profiting from CO2 production have used ruthless disinformation to cast doubt on the fact that our addiction to fossil fuels is heating the planet. And it is no coincidence that enthusiasm for fossil fuels and rejection of climate protection go hand in hand with reactionary politics: the cartel of burners brings together figures like Mohammed bin Salman, Vladimir Putin, Rupert Murdoch, Donald Trump, and Mathias Döpfner, with actors like Sahra Wagenknecht alongside them. Many of today's political disputes and military conflicts are, at their core, about CO2 - and enormous amounts of money.

Christian Stöcker argues that the task now is to save the world for our children from the burners and the blinkered, the liars and kleptocrats who profit from oil and gas. He equips us with the arguments to make clear - in public debate and private conversation alike - why the fossil age is ending and why the future belongs to renewable energy, ecologically, economically, and politically.

Christian Stöcker, born in 1973, is one of Germany's most prominent science and climate journalists. He currently heads the Master's programme in Digital Communication at HAW Hamburg and leads several research projects on digital media technology and the public sphere. He previously spent many years as an editor and section head at Spiegel Online, where he still writes a weekly column in which the climate crisis plays a central role. He is the author of the bestseller "Das Experiment sind wir", among other works.
