Christian Stöcker - Men Who Burn the World — Kulturzentrum Pumpwerk, Wilhelmshaven

For decades, a small group of ultra-wealthy individuals and corporations profiting from CO₂ production have spread deliberate disinformation, casting doubt on whether fossil fuels are heating the planet. It is no coincidence, Stöcker argues, that enthusiasm for fossil fuels and resistance to climate protection go hand in hand with reactionary positions: the cartel of combustion unites people like Mohammed bin Salman, Vladimir Putin, Rupert Murdoch, Donald Trump, and Mathias Döpfner, flanked by figures like Sahra Wagenknecht. Many contemporary political discourses and military conflicts ultimately revolve around CO₂ - and vast sums of money.

Christian Stöcker explains why it is now crucial to save the world from the burners and deceivers, liars and kleptocrats who profit from oil and gas. He provides arguments that can be used in public and private debates to demonstrate why the fossil fuel era is ending and the future - ecological, economic, and political - lies in renewable energy.

Christian Stöcker, born in 1973, is one of Germany's most prominent science and climate journalists. He leads the Master's program in Digital Communication at HAW Hamburg and directs several research projects on digital media technology and the public sphere. Previously, he worked for many years as an editor and department head at Spiegel Online, where he continues to write a weekly column in which the climate crisis plays a central role. He became widely known through the bestseller "Das Experiment sind wir".
