Weihnachtsoratorium 2026 - Christmas Oratorio in Augsburg: Cantatas I-III

Bach's Christmas Oratorio tells the story of the birth of Jesus in an epic work for voices and orchestra. "Jauchzet frohlocket" - angels proclaim the joy of this birth, while the shepherds who hear the message and behold the Saviour praise in soulful music the child who brings peace to the world.

Cantatas IV-VI bring sharp contrasts. The Three Wise Men wish to visit Jesus, but have not reckoned with Herod, who tries to send them on a false trail. Cantatas IV-VI span a ceremonial arc between fierce enemy fury and intimate solos, until light overcomes darkness and the choral voices break into a moving "Fallt mit Danken".

Jubilant elation (Cantatas I-III) and redemptive victory over darkness (Cantatas IV-VI). Both concerts - or just one of your choosing - performed live in historically informed practice.
