A family musical in three acts

The story is well known: Cinderella lives on the estate of her late father, where her stepmother rules with an iron fist, making her life as miserable as possible. When the king holds a ball to find a bride for his son, the stepmother schemes to marry off her own daughter at court. Cinderella longs to go to the ball too, but the stepmother does everything to stop her. Cinderella, however, has three magic nuts and the help of her animal friends. The prince falls for the beautiful, veiled girl during the dance - but she flees, losing a shoe in her escape...

When the German-Czech fairy-tale film "Three Nuts for Cinderella" was first released in 1973, generations of viewers fell for it immediately. Ever since, it has been a fixture of pre-Christmas television every year. Its enduring appeal is no accident: this Cinderella is something special, easy to root for. She is not just beautiful and warm-hearted - she is clever and self-assured, able to ride, shoot, and climb. The prince doesn't simply win her; he has to earn her heart.
