Long live the legend! Rio Reiser, who died far too young, would have turned 75 by now. What began with him, this unstoppable creative force, more than 50 years ago, sounds as urgent today as it did then - perhaps even more so. The roaring ovations greeting Ton Steine Scherben at major venues speak for themselves: Christopher Street Day in Berlin in 2023, Mannheim in 2024. And the band's powerful, clear, distinctive frontwoman Birte speaks for herself too. In 2023, she joined forces with the two surviving original members, Kai and Funky - a kindred spirit who brings a voice full of personal passion and poetry, years of artistic experience, and natural musicality. Birte can sing solo; she has already toured as a singer and guitarist with various bands, on the streets and on stage. So it's no surprise that the new TSS trio - Kai, Funky, and Birte - quickly became a unified force, now drawing from the rich legacy of Scherben. Birte breathes the spirit of honest, rebellious band history into every song, as if she had been there from the very beginning. And we? We get to experience all the beloved Ton Steine Scherben classics with complete authenticity, as if nothing had changed since their founding in 1970 - except perhaps that their birthplace now exists simply as Berlin, without "West".
