Endspiel - a play by Samuel Beckett

It seems only four people are left in the world: one is blind and cannot walk, the other can see but cannot sit. The first sees the world through the eyes of the second and dislikes what he thinks he sees - the two men, Ham and Clov, can neither stand each other nor do without each other. They agree on just one thing: they could easily do without Ham's parents also living under their roof.

The last survivors cannot bear one another. Yet fate has bound them together inseparably, since one cannot exist without the other. Witty, sharp and quick with a comeback, the four take aim at each other, drive each other to the edge of madness, and together dream of another time. They follow rituals and routines full of everyday trivialities, again and again, despite - or perhaps because of - the utter hopelessness of it all: they play for their lives.

Samuel Beckett's Endspiel is regarded as a work of absurdist theatre, dealing with loneliness, depression and the paralysis they bring - all handled with dark, dry humour.
