MS N° 1 - Répertoire Extraordinaire — Feldschlößchen-Stammhaus, Dresden

This evening originated as a counterpart to the table-theatre shows. It was meant to remain intimate and personal while reaching a larger audience. And through extraordinary performances - precisely "extraordinaire". Since then, the three performers have continuously refined this evening, creating an impressive blend of comedic elements and astonishing magic.

Unlike the unique table-theatre shows, this format features no round table. Instead, an intimate and stylish salon theatre with tiered seating. Yet 65 guests (maximum 82) still enjoy the customary closeness! A reminder of the golden age of salon magic. Entertaining. Engaging. Astounding.

Experience the Close Up Night artists from an entirely different perspective. The performances are more elaborate than the table-theatre shows and therefore perfectly visible from every seat. Unusual presentations that you rarely witness from such proximity.

The founder of such evenings was French illusionist and automaton constructor Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin (1805 - 1871). In the mid-19th century, he opened the Théâtre Robert-Houdin in the historic Palais Royal, where he enchanted Parisian audiences during his Soirées Fantastiques with elegant tricks, optical illusions, and mental magic. Rather than the garments worn by conjurers of the time, Robert-Houdin confidently favoured contemporary clothing and created an elegant style that particularly appealed to the educated public. Although Robert-Houdin worked as an illusionist for only eleven years, he shaped the appearance and style of magic for several generations.
