Jazz Differently - "Tribute to Miles Davis - 100 Years of a Jazz Legend" feat. Martin Auer (trumpet) & Hubert Winter (sax) — Rathaus Haßfurt, Haßfurt

An evening dedicated to his legendary quintets.

Miles Davis reshaped jazz like no other musician of his generation. Over five decades he was not merely a witness but a driving force behind the most significant stylistic shifts - from bebop in the 1940s through cool jazz and hard bop to modal jazz, jazz-rock fusion, and the experimental sounds of his later years. His restless curiosity and willingness to reinvent himself shaped generations of musicians.

His quintets were the engines of that evolution. Working alongside figures such as John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Tony Williams, Davis built sonic spaces where innovation and expression fed each other.

The programme focuses on the defining decades of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, tracing the arc from the lyrical, structured sound of the first quintet - heard on albums like Steamin', Workin', Relaxin', Cookin', and the landmark Kind of Blue - to the open, rhythmically layered world of the second quintet. Albums such as E.S.P., Miles Smiles, and Nefertiti chart that journey from the classical jazz ideal toward free, dialogic improvisation.

Led by trumpeter Martin Auer and Hubert Winter, five accomplished musicians bring these creative eras to life in a fresh light - an evening that bridges past and present as a living tribute to the man who kept reinventing jazz.
