Sandman's Calling
Kesselhaus Lauenau, Germany
The music of Sandman's Calling draws inspiration from both tribal music and jazz, making its sonic world difficult to pin down to any single category. Driving grooves, melancholic melodies, unexpected sounds, and free improvisation blend with influences from the Maghreb region and the Middle East. Is this jazz, world music, or something else entirely? Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (oud, gimbri, bass), Mathias Künzli (drums, percussion), and Gregor Frei (clarinets, saxophone) craft with their music sand mandalas that can transform into countless shapes on the wind of improvisation.
In 2026, Sandman's Calling releases their third album, "Journey". The aim was to think in images and states of being rather than recording piece by piece. The result is a journey through emotional landscapes that reflects an engagement with world events. The connection of all members in different ways to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the rich music of the African continent combines with all that unites us as human beings.
Free admission for young people under 18.
