THE GREGORIAN VOICES - Gregorian Chant meets Pop - From the Middle Ages to Today

THE GREGORIAN VOICES have been touring Europe since spring 2011. Under the artistic direction of Oleksiy Semenchuk, eight exceptional Ukrainian soloists bring the tradition of Gregorian chant to life with remarkable skill.

Dressed in traditional monk's robes, the singers create a mystical atmosphere that takes audiences on a journey through medieval sacred music - a sound world with no boundaries of time, religion, or language. The programme blends Gregorian chants, Orthodox church music, and songs and madrigals from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The choir and its soloists show what Gregorian chant can sound like today: rooted in tradition yet very much alive.

The second half of the concert features pop classics rearranged in Gregorian style, including "Ameno" by ERA, "You raise me up" by Josh Groban, "Knocking on heaven's door" by Bob Dylan, "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, "Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel, and "Sailing" by Rod Stewart. The Middle Ages meet the present.
