THE GREGORIAN VOICES - Gregorian Chant meets Pop - From the Middle Ages to Today
Garnison Kirche, Celle, Germany
28 €
Since spring 2011, THE GREGORIAN VOICES have been touring across Europe. Under the artistic direction of Oleksiy Semenchuk, eight exceptional Ukrainian soloists bring the musical tradition of Gregorian chant to life with remarkable skill.
Dressed in traditional monk's habits, the singers create a mystical atmosphere that takes the audience on a journey through the world of medieval sacred music - a soundscape with no boundaries of time, religion, or language. The programme spans Gregorian chorales, Orthodox church music, and songs and madrigals from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Through sheer vocal power and numerous solo passages, the choir demonstrates how Gregorian chant can sound today: rooted in tradition yet entirely present.
The second half of the concert features pop classics rearranged in the Gregorian style, including "Ameno" by ERA, "You raise me up" by Josh Groban, "Knocking on heaven's door" by Bob Dylan, "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, "Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel, and "Sailing" by Rod Stewart.
Let the soloists' captivating voices and the choir's moving harmonies carry you from the Middle Ages straight into the present.
