The young baroque orchestra BACHS ERBEN presents a programme of baroque suites and dances, framed by Johann Sebastian Bach's Peasant Cantata "Mer hahn en neue Oberkeet" BWV 212 - sung in Thuringian dialect.

The Thuringian State Folk Dance Group performs alongside the orchestra in traditional costume, bringing old Thuringian folk traditions to the stage. Together, the two ensembles launch this year's festival motto "HEIMAT KLÄNGE".

About the venue: Stadtkirche Sankt Peter und Paul

The Stadtkirche Sankt Peter und Paul - known locally as the Herderkirche - is a late-Gothic hall church in the centre of Weimar. It houses a large triptych altarpiece by Lucas Cranach the Elder and Younger, completed around 1555. Johann Gottfried Herder preached here for decades, which is how the church earned its popular name. Today it serves as both an active parish church and a venue for concerts and cultural events.
