Family Tour: How Does an Orchestra Work?
Jagdschloss, Pirna, Germany
10 €
During the museum tour, children and adults learn how the music of the famous composer Richard Wagner sounded and how today's film music - for example from "The Lord of the Rings" or "Harry Potter" - drew inspiration from Wagner's operas.
Wagner used leitmotifs in his operas for singers and action to create a special atmosphere and drama, much like modern Hollywood films do today.
Want to conduct an orchestra yourself? That's possible at the virtual orchestra pit! Interactive screens show which instruments create which sounds and how this is reflected in the score. This way, both children and adults can learn how a conductor leads an orchestra. Featured is the enchanting prelude to Richard Wagner's opera "Lohengrin", which he sketched during a summer stay in 1846 in Graupa. Today's "Lohengrin House" is the oldest authentic residence of Richard Wagner used as a museum.
At the hologram theatre, visitors can experience the ghostly pirate ship from the opera "The Flying Dutchman" and listen to Wagner's music in well-known films at listening stations.
