Katharina Kollmann, performing as Nichtseattle, is one of the most remarkable singer-songwriters of her generation. Her double album "HAUS", released in April 2024, cemented her place in the cultural landscape. Few artists manage to weave the political and the personal together as movingly as she does.
She has been a choir director, a co-founder of a collective housing project - and always a songwriter at heart. Her music sits at the crossroads of folk and indie rock. She draws on the work of East German singer-songwriters like Gerhard Schöne as naturally as she does on the American sound of the Pixies.
There are no excuses in Nichtseattle's music, no small talk, no fake eroticism or manufactured sentiment, no tinsel and no frills. "(...) But if you can handle the raw, unplastered construction site of Kollmann's soul, you'll find the most beautiful, warmest and most open home for miles around," wrote Andreas Borcholte in Der Spiegel.
