NEELE PFLEIDERER
VOCAL JAZZ BADISCH
Freiburg-based jazz vocalist and ZMF Prize winner 2022 Neele Pfleiderer and London-born jazz pianist Will Bartlett, who has made Freiburg his home, first met at a jam session shortly before the first lockdown in 2020. Their very first rehearsal clicked musically, and it was clear from the start that both musicians wanted to keep working together.
Their current programme weaves modern arrangements of well-known Alemannic folk songs from the region, settings of texts by Johann Peter Hebel, and contemporary dialect poetry into a framework of modern jazz. Songs in standard German, other dialects, and other languages also feature.
At the heart of their work is the beauty of language itself and the richness that every dialect and tongue brings with it. A second thread runs through rhythm and South American groove. Brazilian rhythm with Alemannic folk songs - does it work? Absolutely. "LOSE Ä MOL" have coined a new genre: "Alemannic Samba" - folklore and tradition set in jazzy harmonies and rhythmic worlds.
