Jan Behrens is a pianist and physician from Braunschweig who has been a fixture of the regional music and jazz scene for many years. His solo piano CD series "Silent Lights" brought him recognition well beyond the region. His distinctive playing style blends lyrical original compositions with carefully built musical tension, often with a touch of jazz.
Behrens performs solo piano concerts across Germany. He made headlines in 2015 when he cycled from Lake Constance to the North Sea, accompanied by his musical partner, double bassist Jürgen Osterloh. The proceeds from the concerts went to the Fahrende Ärzte charity and the Braunschweig homeless project Iglu. The tour was covered by NDR, RTL, and Sat.1.
His latest project is the "Silent Lights Box" - a collection of night songs released in the form of a lovingly designed matchbox containing a USB stick. Behrens set well-known folk songs such as "Der Mond ist aufgegangen" and "Guten Abend, gut' Nacht" to music alongside new original compositions. His concerts carry a particular intimacy, drawing the audience into his resonant musical worlds.
