Bad Schmiedeberger Meisterkonzerte - Harp Sounds
Kurhaus Bad Schmiedeberg, Germany
25 €
On one of the world's oldest instruments, harpist Sophia Warczak takes her audience on a journey through baroque, romantic and modern music. Sweeping sounds stir the imagination, rolling waves invite daydreaming, ceremonial tones carry listeners back to the baroque era, and vivid contemporary pieces reveal new timbres. Throughout the evening, Sophia Warczak introduces each work and the instrument itself with her own commentary. The programme spans G. F. Handel, A. Piazzolla, L. Spohr and P. Hindemith. Harp solo - an evening for dreaming and pure musical pleasure.
Sophia Warczak is a prize-winner at national and international competitions, has held scholarships from several foundations, and performs both as a soloist and with various ensembles and orchestras at home and abroad. She has played with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, appeared as soloist with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie, and made recordings for television and radio.
She began playing the harp at the age of seven at the Rostock Conservatory. At thirteen she was enrolled as a young student at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock. She completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in harp cum laude at the Musikhochschule Utrecht (NL) in the class of Prof. Erika Waardenburg. She now lives in northern Germany, appears as solo harpist with various orchestras, and performs as a soloist and with her own ensembles.
