A death, a funeral, a priest - so far everything could proceed in order. Gernot Steinfels, a 94-year-old patriarch of a mid-sized German company, is to be given a dignified farewell. The new managing director-to-be, Horst Bohne, organizes the ceremony and orders a funeral wreath with a ribbon in the name of all employees. The text on it: "In deepest sorrow. Your employees."

Shortly before the ceremony begins, his female colleagues discover the ribbon - and are distinctly irritated. Why not "... and female employees"? Or employees_female? Employees*female? From that point on, the mourning community stumbles from one linguistic misstep to the next and conducts a micro-aggressive cultural debate about gender issues, sexism and politically correct behaviour.
