For over 30 years, the Young Philharmonie Cologne has presented its audience with a cheerful and contemplative programme at the turn of the year, drawn from the rich repertoire of the Strauss dynasty and their contemporaries.

Under its umbrella, a unique platform has emerged that offers young professionals an increasingly rare opportunity to participate in extraordinary concert projects that transcend the boundaries of their studies and professional lives. The orchestra is led by a non-profit association that supports its mission as a musical ambassador of a peaceful world through the integration of numerous young artists from abroad living in Germany.

Anyone who attends a New Year concert by the Young Philharmonie Cologne knows that on this day the lighter muse is ruled by conductor Volker Hartung with wit and humour.

Alongside masterworks by Emile Waldteufel featuring "The Skaters" and Jacques Offenbach with his overture to "Orpheus in the Underworld", the New Year concert will feature the tango "Una Cabeza" by Carlos Gardel, waltzes by Johann Strauss Jr. including the overture to "Die Fledermaus", the "Lucifer Polka", and works by Georges Bizet, Niccolò Paganini and Pablo de Sarasate performed by the orchestra's young virtuosos.
